Join Julie Goodwin for Dinner!

Enjoy a menu lovingly curated by Julie Goodwin and delivered by the team at Mackenzie Quarters.

We initially fell in love with Julie Goodwin on the first season of MasterChef in 2009. Her simple honest food resonated with so many of us. After winning the show, Julie went on to write a regular column for Australian Women’s Weekly, was a presenter on the Today show, published numerous cookbooks, hosted an award winning breakfast radio show and was even seen making her signature cupcakes in the jungle on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!

What we didn’t see was the mounting pressure of success. Julie struggled with depression, anxiety and addiction; eventually finding herself in a mental health facility.

At dinner, in between courses, hear first-hand how Julie’s experiences have shaped her and how she chooses to live her life today.

immersive DINING EXPERIENCE

An Intimate Immersive Dining Experience With Lauren Starr

"Luminaries: Re-imagining women in the Australian goldfields"

Join us for an intimate immersive dining experience with award winning artist Lauren Starr.  As you enjoy a 4 course meal with matched wines inspired by Lauren's art, Lauren will provide you with a sneak peek at some of her finished works from her project "Luminaries: Re-imagining women in the Australian goldfields" and speak about her journey in creating these pieces of work and divulge what is yet to come for this fascinating project.

A luminary is something that gives light, such as a celestial object. It also refers to a person who inspires, who lights the way. Women living in the Australian goldrush period were such beacons of light, however there is very little evidence of them having existed. From artworks to official accounts and historical tellings, they are lost amongst the dust and masculine world of the goldfields. Through Lauren's research, both into her own ancestors and historical documents, she has developed a connection with these pioneering females. It is her intention, that through the use of costume and photography she can re-imagine the Australian landscape of the 1850s and artistically represent the women that lived there.

The Menu will include;

Canape - Cured king trout, chickpea blini, creme fraiche, avruga

Entree - Pâté en croûte, cornichons, dijon mustard

Main - Braised lamb shoulder, mille feuille potatoes, baby turnips, lamb jus

Dessert - Rum baba, champagne sorbet, gold leaf

Please note

Every course will have a wine paired

As this is a set menu dietary adjustments will not be catered for on this occasion.

Ticket pricing: $150pp

To help make your special day the perfect day, we’ve invited a selection of local celebrants and photographers to our venue so you can have brief but intimate chats (‘speed dates’) with, to see if they are the right fit for your wedding.   When you’re not “speed dating” celebrants and photographers, our experienced wedding planners will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.

Throughout the night you’ll also have the opportunity to sip on an arrival cocktail whilst touring and appreciating our beautiful spaces, including our accommodation.  You will also have the chance to sample our menu, taste 6 varieties of wedding cakes and enjoy our renowned gelato, as well as gather inspiration for styled table settings and stunning floral arrangements from 3 local stylists/florists.

Tickets are just $10 per person and include a cocktail on arrival!

Bendigo writers festival - brunch

Do not mess with Jess (they/them). A tough childhood seasoned them for so-called "hospitality" work which they reckon is the perfect place for outsiders to share a "lust for life and taste for destruction". Masons of Bendigo’s Sonia and Nick Anthony love Jess's outspoken courage and quest for culinary excellence, so they're  teaming up with Rhianwen Seiter at MacKenzie Quarters, for an in-conversation plus hearty brunch of seasonal soup and fresh-baked tart. Guests are invited to arrive from 9am (help yourself to coffee or barrel-aged tea).

Bendigo writers festival - festival banquet

You'll be welcomed with canapes and a glass of celebratory wine, followed by delectable dishes prepared by our MacKenzie Quarters chef, with the theme “Hero Vegetables (and Friends)”. The Joy of Better Cooking and In Praise of Veg author and broadcaster Alice Zaslavsky will then be joined by host Rhianwen Seiter for a conversation about how to put the joy into cooking and the brilliant answers to the simple question, what are we eating? Ticket includes welcome glass of wine, banquet food, followed by a conversation with Alice and book signings.

Drinks available at the bar. Books on sale at the venue
